Application file # 36; National Register Guilderland Multiple
Resource Area # 34.
This building is located on Western Turnpike in the center of
the hamlet known as Dunnsville.
Features: This plain vernacular commercial structure has a
simple channelled cornice with a wide unadorned freize and a
one-story porch across front with a shed roof; enclosed outside
stair from the second floor is on the eastern end of the building.
Date of initial construction: ca. 1866
Historical and Architectural importance: Originally built as
a store and post office, the structure has always been a center of
activity in this area of town. It follows the common plan of having
the shopkeeper living above the store and post office. The building
was converted to a grange hall when the store closed and is still
used for grange functions. Although the building is plain and
unadorned, it is an excellent example of commercial architecture of
that period. It has survived amidst modern suburban development and
is particularly significant relative to such surroundings.
