Text information from NRHP nomination of 1982
Freeman House entered on the NRHP 10 November 1982
Application file # 7; National Register Guilderland Multiple
Resource Area # 35.
The house is located close to the road in the hamlet of Guilderland
Center. A church and other homes are located nearby.
Features: Two-story, Dutch Colonial house with gable roof and
concealed chimneys at gable ends; five bays wide, center entrance
with original handcrafted paneled Dutch door; 12/12 windows on first
floor; interior retains much of the original hardware, woodwork, and
doors; large smooth finished beams typical to "Dutch" construction;
fireplace on western side retains the original paneling, fireback,
and sheet iron protector.
Date of initial construction: 1734 (center and eastern
portion); 1750 (western portion); ca. 1800 ell on rear added.
Historical and Architectural importance: This exceptional
Dutch Colonial house was built by or for Robert Freeman in the
1730's. It originally was planned as two rooms with a loft above. By
the middle of the 18th century Barent Mynderse added the room to the
west and raised the roof to a full second story. The original
integrity of the house has been maintained throughout, and the
development of the home is evident in the detailing used at
different periods. This is one of the finest and earliest Colonial
buildings in the Town.
