Apple Tavern entered on the NRHP 10 November 1982
Application file # 25; National Register Guilderland Multiple Resource Area # 2.
The structure is located near a five road intersection along the old Schoharie Turnpike. With the outbuildings it forms an intact farm/tavern complex.
Features: Two-story, wood frame building with a two-story columned portico across the front (north side); two-tiered screened porch on east side, chimneys at gable ends and dormer windows across front; interior remains intact with many features from the 18th century.
Date of initial construction: ca. 1760; major exterior renovation ca. 1880.
Historical and Architectural importance: Known as the "Apple Tavern" this building has been a significant part of the development of Guilderland. Located on the Schoharie Turnpike it was a frequent stop for travellers and stagecoaches. In 1803 the tavern was the site of the first Town Meeting when Guiilderland was incorporated. Now a residence, the building remains intact and a significant historical element of the town. Substantially altered in the 1880's, the building is distinguished by a two-story portico with a central, second story balcony. The formal and imposing character created by the incorporation of these elements is unusual for such an isolated, rural structure of the eighteenth  and nineteenth centuries. The building displays considerable architectural significance relative to its surroundings of contemporary suburban development.
