Text information from NRHP nomination of 1982
Mynderse-Frederick House entered on the NRHP 10 November 1982
Application file # 9; National Register Guilderland Multiple Resource Area # 15.
The house is located in the hamlet of Guilderland Center with a small commercial complex located to the northwest of the property. Prominently set back from the road, it retains its original setting.
Features: Two-story, Colonial style house with ell at rear; classically recessed doorway with pilasters, transom and side lights; gable roof with chimneys at gable ends; interior retains original features such as newel post and stairway, fireplace mantels and kitchen fireplace.
Date of initial construction: ca. 1800.
Historical and Architectural importance: The building was constructed as a residence but was adapted to a tavern when the Schoharie plank road was constructed in the 1840's. It became the home of Stephen V. Frederick, a teacher and businessman, who was the Town Supervisor from 1861-1866. He later served as Treasurer of Albany County from 1867-1870. The house is now owned by the Town and is used to hold historic exhibits.
A simple, vernacular version of a Colonial style farmhouse, the building is distinguished from the modern suburban environment around the village. The Mynderse-Frederick House is locally significant as one of the earliest buildings of Guilderland still in existence. It retains significant exterior integrity.
