Text information from NRHP nomination of 1982
Houck Farmhouse entered on the NRHP 10 November 1982
Application file # 24; National Register Guilderland Multiple
Resource Area # 32.
Although the building is still situated in a rural farm setting, the
land has reverted to woodland. The nominated area includes an
arbitrary plot of five acres on which the house is situated.
Features: Two-story wood frame farmhouse, one and one-half
story ell on north side with eye-brow windows; recessed doorway with
transom and side lights; enclosed pedimented portico on ell; gable
roofs and clapboard siding; shuttered 6/6 windows; interior is
original.
Date of initial construction: ca. 1850
Historical and Architectural importance: The farmhouse was
built in the 1850's for J.G. Houck. It is an excellent example of a
Greek Revival mansion. Corner pilasters, wide entablature, attic
story windows, and sidelights, transom, and pilasters surrounding
the front doors are characteristic of the style. The building has
survived amidst modern tract development and exhibits distinctive
architectural significance relative to such surroundings. It remains
in excellent condition.
