Text information from NRHP nomination of 1982
Guilderland Cemetery Vault entered on the NRHP 10 November
1982
Application file # 26; National Register Guilderland Multiple
Resource Area # 3.
The area is open agricultural land but there are some quarrying
operations nearby. the nominated area is 100 feet from the center of
the building on all sides.
Features: The building is unique coursed cobblestone with
smooth ashlar quoins and rounded arch door.
Date of initial construction: ca. 1872
Historical and Architectural importance: The Guilderland
Cemetery Vault is significant as one of only several cobblestone
buildings in the town. Although cobblestone construction was a
common building technique in the northeast prior to the twentieth
century, it was rare in this vicinity. The vault is a significant
and unusual example of the use of this material. It is well crafted,
with simple embellishments typical of a straightforward vernacular
design. The building survives intact amidst modern suburban
development encroaching upon the area.
