Text information from NRHP nomination of 1982
Gillespie House entered on the NRHP 10 November 1982
Application file # 15; National Register Guilderland Multiple
Resource Area # 27.
Situated close to the heavily travelled Western Turnpike (U.S. Route
20).
Features: Small one and one-half story farmhouse; Greek
Revival design; center entrance with pilastered door surround; five
small eye-brow windows in frieze; small ell on rear.
Date of initial construction: ca. 1840
Historical and Architectural importance: This small Greek
Revival farmhouse is a significant example of the modest rural homes
built in the town in the mid-nineteenth century. The house retains
its original integrity with modest detailing and is highly visible
from the road. The building is situated in a community pressured by
suburban development. Relative to the contemporary tract-type
development in the surrounding area this Greek Revival structure,
although small and modest in design, stands out as architecturally
and historically significant.
